The Shop's Back!

Well, ok, not quite yet, but it will be!! I received enough pre-orders (26 skeins, so just barely) to re-open the store as soon as my yarn supply arrives. I'm invoicing all my pre-orders today & hope to order the yarns by Friday, so I can hopefully get started dyeing next week and re-open for real by the end of the month. It's been an entire year, that is so sad... I've missed dyeing for you guys; I hope you've missed my yarns & will come back as customers!

I AM still taking pre-orders until Friday, if anyway wants to jump in at the last minute, just drop me an email!!

The other thing I'll be working on in the coming weeks is a new site. I will have the shop up on a new domain and will be running a shopping card via the shop itself, which I find sort of exciting. :-) The blog will move to a part of the domain, and will be updated much more frequently, as I come up with new colourways, and as I add new stock. So keep checking back over the next few weeks, things are getting exciting around these parts!

SHOP NEWS!!

News! Oh goodness, news!!

Nope, I didn't die, and yes, I am re-opening the shop! Well, hopefully. That depends on  you all, my lovely customers.

Here's the deal: My cross-country move + being in school full-time meant that my yarn stock couldn't be replenished when I'd hoped to, and I wasn't living somewhere where yarn-dyeing could happen. Now that I'm newly settled into a house I plan to stay in for a while, I'm looking to open up the shop again. This is where you all come in. This is sort of like a Kickstarter campaign, only not as cool (and I'd do one there, but they don't allow what I'm trying to do, alas).

Basically, I'm going to take pre-orders for yarn. You can pre-order a specific colourway or just pretend it's a gift certificate for future use and decide what you want to actually order later. If I get enough pre-orders by 15 August, I will invoice everyone and then make a major yarn purchase, and get started dyeing. If I don't get enough pre-orders, then we all get to wait a bit longer, until I come up with some alternative financing.

How many pre-orders do I need? 25 skeins of Squoshy sock yarn, (75/25 superwash merino/nylon blend, 420 yds), at $23 each would get me the ability to replenish my supplies enough to get back up & running for real. If I get 30 skeins pre-ordered by 15 Aug, I'll even throw in free (first class) shipping to all my pre-orders in the US/Canada.

Note: I'm not including worsted weight or Sparkle in this pre-order, but they will be available when the shop re-opens. The worsted will be the same as before (100% superwash merino, 230 yds) for $16 and the Sparkle will be a new blend (75/20 superwash merino/nylon with 5% metallic fibre, 420 yds) for $28. The manufacturers have done away entirely with the old blend of my Sparkle base, which makes me sad, because I absolutely loved it and I loved being able to tell people that it had real sterling silver in it, but unfortunately, no one gets to have that base yarn any longer. :-( The new base is lovely, however, and I don't think that overall people will find much, if any, difference between them.

When I roll the new shop out, it will no longer be on Etsy, and it will be off Paypal as well. The initial invoices for pre-orders will most likely come from Paypal but after that, I'm hoping that my shop will run independently. So goes the plan, anyway.

So, now that I've explained everything, how do you pre-order? Simple: Send me an email -- draygoneyarnes@gmail.com -- and tell me what you'd like*. Please don't comment with an order; I want to keep them all in one place in my email account. I'll keep a running total for everyone, and will be in touch around 10 Aug if it looks like I'll have enough pre-orders to invoice everyone, with a grand total, including a priority mail shipping price (optional if I reach 30 pre-orders, unless you want faster shipping). I will also keep everyone in the loop about how long it takes the yarn bases to reach me, and when your order can expect to be dyed and shipped. Please keep in mind that it will take me a while; I'm running strictly dye-to-order from now on, rather than having anything pre-dyed, because it saves me from running out of base yarns. Also keep in mind that I start school again the last week in August, but I intend to dye on my days not on campus.

What colourways can you pre-order? That's a good question! (any yarns pictured on Sparkle base are also available on Squoshy, and will be available on Sparkle at a later date).

Stripes: Any sport team colours (if it's not an easy-to-find team logo, I may ask for a picture). Also anything you see here.

Variegated: Anything listed here.

Tonals: Anything listed here.

I'm not taking "custom" orders at this time, but that will be a thing in the future, as will many more colourways to come. This is just to get me going again; I want to be sure that when I can get these pre-orders done, I can get to them in a timely fashion.

* If you're simply buying what could be counted as a gift certificate, i.e. you don't know what you want yet but you will later, I ask that you give me an idea of how many skeins, and later when you want to order, that you give me a minimum of 2 weeks before you want your yarn to arrive, to let me know what you want.

Shop Changes

Due to some crazy time issues - i.e. I have not much, and next quarter at school I'll have less - I am temporarily suspending my line of self-striping yarns. You'll have until 31 Mar to order striping yarns, and then I'll be putting the entire collection of them on hiatus, until I've moved in June/July. Once I'm settled, these yarns will be back, but the last thing I want is to get overwhelmed and start dyeing an inferior product, as the stripes take a considerable amount of time vs. variegated and tonals. As I made this decision this morning, I wanted to make sure I let everyone know, so that you can plan accordingly; if there's a yarn you've been waiting to buy, do so sooner rather than later unless you don't mind a longer wait.

What this also means is that I will have at least a little more time to dye some new colourways - I have a whole lot in mind! - and keep the shop stocked with a whole bunch of new things. Like what? Well, a line called "I do believe..." (fairies and dragons and mermaids, oh my!) will be debuting soon, for starters. And some fannish crazy, I've been dying (haha) to dye some Dr Who yarns for months now. And other surprises.

I want to thank all my customers for being so amazing, and I promise I'll bring the stripes back, because I know just how popular those are. I hope that my new colourways will also be things you fall in love with, as time goes forward.

2010 Holidays in the Shop!

Hey everyone,

I’m going to be doing something a bit different for the holidays this year, due to my schedule being a bit more complicated that usual.

So here’s the deal:

Starting on Friday, Nov 19: Free shipping on all orders, everywhere in the world. This will last until I put my shop into vacation mode in early Dec.

On Wed, Nov 24, every order* will get an extra discount, but it’ll be a surprise as to how much. I’ll refund back somewhere between 5% & 25% of your order via paypal on Wed only.

On Fri, Nov 26, everything in the shop* is buy one, get one half-off until noon Pacific time.

At some point after Dec 1 (and I reserve the right to make that whenever I feel like I can’t keep up with any more orders & get things out before I leave the country for two weeks), I will put the shop into vacation mode. This will last until I return from Toronto in early January. All orders will be shipped no later than Dec 12, unless you order AFTER Dec 1, and you live in Canada, in which case, I will be bringing your yarn to Toronto with me and shipping from there, because with holidays & customs, it’ll probably get to you faster that way.

I will do my best, especially on Nov 26, to be at the computer most of the day and restocking as things sell.

Happy holidays, whatever they may be, everyone! :-)

*All sales exclude sock club memberships, sorry, gotta keep those at a stable price to make them work

It's the first of November...

And clearly, I decided I wasn't busy enough with everyday things. In addition to looking for a "real job" while running the business side of dyeing yarn, doing custom and regular colourways, coming up with new colourways - time consuming it its own right! - my brain went "oh, no, not even close to busy enough!"

So what is an overachiever with not even close to enough time on her hands supposed to do? Join in for both NaNoWriMo AND NaKnitMo (Ravelry link). Thankfully someone handed me an extra hour to use for these (un?)wise endeavors.

A notion of my "progress," as it were, for today (keeping in mind, it's not even noon yet):
  • Ordered skeins to be dyed: 8
  • Skeins to work up prototypes for: At least 15 (probably won't get there today)
  • Stitches knit for NaKnitMo: 756, post-midnight, prior to sleep last night
  • Wordcount for NaNoWriMo: 675
  • Hockey games to watch: 3 (Sharks, on now; Caps & Canucks, both on later) + 1 to listen to (my WHL team is on the road)
  • Sleep: so far, 4 hours

Who, me, busy? Oh, and I need to relist some yarns, take some pictures, post some here, mess with the layout some, since I'm going to try and update at least once a week here with my yarnie goings-on. In the meantime, come visit me, you can find me all sorts of places:

My Etsy shop
My Twitter account
My Ravelry group
And of course, here. I hope you'll join me as I attempt to be a crazybusy person without actually going crazy. Wish me luck!
